The Resonance of the Elements

These brooches offer a contemporary breath to the ancient heritage of Toutai-shikki (pottery lacquerware).

In this series, my practice becomes a dialogue between my hands and the elemental forces believed to form our world. It begins with the quiet shaping of earth and its transformation through fire, layered with the sacred gift of urushi lacquer. Through the delicate mending of kintsugi and the presence of brass and steel, the element of metal completes the cycle.

There is a quiet meaning in shaping these elements into a brooch. Worn close to the heart, like a protective amulet, each piece carries 1,300 years of tradition into a modern expression of spirit and form.
