These brooches are made from methods that resembles the five basic elements, wood, fire, earth, metal, and water that ancient Chinese philosophy believed made up the world.
The method of pottery lacquerware was also recorded in until 710AD in the Nara Period of Japan.
These jewellery are a form of modern contemporary expressions of these ancient pottery lacquerware methods.
