30 Nov – 4 Dec 2024
Sala Santa Rita, Roma Italy
A major exhibition in Rome paying homage to Frida Kahlo through contemporary jewelry.
The exhibition "Dipingo fiori per non farli morire," (I paint flowers so they will not die) organized by the Associazione Metamorfosi and curated by Carlo Lucidi, celebrates the 70th anniversary ofFrida Kahlo's passing. It will open on November 30, 2024, at the Sala Santa Rita in Rome. Featuring over 80 artists from around the world, the exhibition explores the enduring and universal influence of Frida Kahlo, a symbol of resilience, beauty, and feminine identity, through contemporary jewelry. The event is promoted by Roma Capitale Assessorato alla Cultura-Dipartimento Attività Culturali.
The more than 300 pieces on display delve into the connection between creativity, resilience, and feminine identity, showcasing unique works crafted from materials ranging from gold to recycled metals, ceramics to fabrics. Each piece, like a small universe, tells stories of strength, suffering, hope, and rebirth—themes that reflect Kahlo's art and life, which have profoundly influenced and continue to inspire generations of artists. This exhibition is not only a tribute to the legendary Mexican artist but also an opportunity to reflect on the impact of feminine creativity in contemporary art. Jewelry, long a symbol of personality and identity, becomes the medium through which these artists engage with Kahlo’s themes: pain, hope, duality, and identity.
Statement by the curator, Carlo Lucidi:
"Frida Kahlo is not just an icon of the past but a creative force that continues to inspire. With this exhibition, I wanted to give voice to the women of today, who, through their talent and vision, carry forward Frida's legacy. The displayed jewelry pieces are not mere ornaments; they tell stories of struggle, resilience, and rebirth. Each piece is a dialogue with Frida's universe, but also a reflection on the challenges and achievements of women in contemporary art."
The exhibition is free and open to the public.

This summer, I created my new works for this exhibition. Pain, joy and healing... it was a precious time inspired by Frida Kahlo.
When I think about her very turbulent life. It reminds me that although our lives seem complicated, it is a straight line from beginning to end.We are unique in our makeup as well as in the way we live our lives, and that’s what makes us who we are, I felt like her life was telling us.
These works are made from a single string, just like our lives, and the red thread or beads represents her form of healing (scars).
Love the life you live.
What makes you you?
